W.O.N. (What’s On the Needles) – The Big Easy

The Big Easy: A big ol’ one size fits all sweater in Blue Sky’s worsted weight organic cotton, destined for L.B.I. (Long Beach Island, NJ) weekends or any time when comfort is the main objective. Easy to wear & easy to knit, with a couple surprise techniques thrown in to keep it interesting. The pattern for this is on the horizon.

The Big Easy in Progress

It could be said that the project pictured is the third incarnation of this sweater. The original was a slouchy-fitting red cotton sweater that I have worn to smithereens. Version 2, pictured below, was meant to be a replacement but I still haven’t let go. I knitted this version in Berroco’s Weekender. It served as my re-entry into knitting after a very long hiatus and it took me nearly 3 years to complete. The time it took had nothing to do with the amount of work or difficulty. There were so many distractions! However, by the time it was completed I was totally re-immersed in yarn and needles.

Big Easy Prototype

The Original

The newest version, version 3, is being knitted for a friend who saw the Berroco version and asked me to knit one for her. She’s the one who choose the luscious color, “Caribbean.” I thank her for that because this made for a bright and cheery project.  It’s in heavier yarn than version 2, so there were adjustments to be made to my original pattern. When I write out the pattern I’ll probably include directions for both DK and worsted. But I’ll enlist a test knitter for version 4 . . . .  although I could just sit, knit and binge on a Good Wife marathon . . . .
